Blood on Books

November 30, 2009

Lyrics by McAlmont. Brilliant the way David makes it sound like I wrote them. Based on the relationship of Genet and Abdallah, a tightrope walker he courted then abandoned after Abdallah fell and broke his leg, unable to impress from the heights anymore. The lad went off and drowned himself. Genet and his eroticising of treachery. More detail in Edmund White’s Genet biography.

The music was written on guitar, hence the speed. Transferred to piano as I couldn’t play it fast enough! Dropped a tone after a few weeks as the singing was just too damn high for me. In my fantasy village of impressive singers Scott Walker does this one with his mighty deep croon.

  1. Damn, that sound’s so easy if you think about it.
