One of the things I’ve been trying to emulate is the quietness of this lovely piece by Valentin Silvestrov:

However as soon as I get something stark like this it feels too bare, and out come the swathes of ambient guitars. Oblique Strategies might suggest : ‘leave out the unnecessary’. Indeed, but that’s hard to attempt when there’s a world of possibilities. Weed out the extraneous, harshly, mercilessly. Oh, but look, such lovely weeds.

“first thought, best thought,” Ginsberg said. And “music is the silence between the notes,” says another. It’s only a weed if you don’t want it….

Thanks Chris. I think when you’ve made a body of work it’s quite usual to react against it or to try going further down a particular strand. I’m trying this time to be more public about the process. Early days.
First thoughts usually need editing in my case. Libellous!

Was just listening to ‘Pierced’. While not my favorite tune by KOD – it occurred to me it’s one of my favorite vocal performance by you.
